Coalitions in Action—Futuro Latino Coalition Adapts Their Substance Use Prevention Efforts During COVID-19

The Futuro Latino Coalition, based in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, VA, is the recent winner of CADCA’s Dose of Prevention Award. This award is presented each year to a coalition that goes above and beyond in raising awareness in their community of the dangers of prescription (Rx) drug misuse and over-the-counter (OTC) cough medicine misuse during the month of October, National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month.

Despite the universal challenges facing in-person outreach since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Futuro Latino Coalition adapted by focusing on new sectors in their community, writing an article featured in their local newspaper, and setting up a DEA Take-Back Day event, to name a few strategies. Read more, in a blog, written and featured by our partners at the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, to learn about their additional efforts.
