Remembering Tad Foote

The Board of Directors, staff and membership of Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) join in remembrance and celebration today for the life of Edward Thaddeus ‘Tad’ Foote II, the fourth President of the University of Miami and a founding member of the CADCA Board of Directors.

Tad Foote was a member of the nation’s first President’s Drug Advisory Council.  As a founding CADCA Board Member, he served CADCA with distinction from October 1992 to February 2011.

From his base at the University of Miami, Tad Foote tackled Miami’s drug and crime problems head-on. He rallied Miami’s business and civic leaders to create The Miami Coalition for A Safe and Drug-Free Community, of which he was founding chairman. This broad-based task force approached the community’s drug problems from every conceivable angle— from creating drug-free school zones to establishing treatment programs. Miami Coalition became a model for community-based anti-drug coalitions to follow.

Tad Foote was a humanitarian in every sense of the word.  He was truly one of the pioneers of the coalition movement.  In 2011, CADCA had the opportunity to formally recognize Tad’s many contributions to drug prevention and society at large by presenting him with our Lifetime Distinguished Service Award.

CADCA sends our deepest condolences to the Foote family, and we join the throng of Tad’s many friends in celebration of his inspiring life.

Post your memories of Mr. Foote on CADCA’s Facebook page.
