Washington, D.C. – This Thursday, October 13, CADCA will host the 24th Annual Drug-Free Kids Campaign Awards Dinner at the Riverview Ballroom in Gaylord’s National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. The ceremony will celebrate the successes of CADCA’s 2022 Drug-Free Kids Campaign (DFKC).
CADCA’s DFKC represents the community coalition movement, whose goal is to combat youth drug use and misuse through a comprehensive multi-sector approach. It takes the collective efforts of all our sponsors and partners who join CADCA’s mission to strengthen the capacity of community coalitions to create safe, healthy and drug-free communities.
The annual DFKC Awards Dinner brings together over 400 corporate sponsors, federal partners, members of congress and prevention leaders across the country who are committed to prevention, treatment and recovery of substance misuse.
“In the midst of the serious, and often deadly, substance use and misuse public health crisis, it is important to stay committed and vigilant to our work, but also celebrate the tireless efforts of our community coalitions and the strong support of our federal, corporate and private partners. Together, we have furthered the cause of substance misuse prevention in communities throughout the world by educating, equipping, empowering and advocating for community substance use and misuse prevention coalitions,” said General Barrye L. Price, Ph.D., President and CEO, CADCA.
Each year, CADCA awards an exemplary individual or organization the Humanitarian of the Year Award. CADCA’s 2022 Humanitarian Award will be presented to AmerisourceBergen and the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. CADCA’s partnership with AmerisourceBergen has trained thousands of communities and individuals on the importance of safe storage and safe disposal of medications, including the launch of an educational video series available in English and Spanish.
“The teams at AmerisourceBergen and the AmerisourceBergen Foundation are proud and humbled to be selected as CADCA’s Humanitarian of the Year Award. The future of our world is brighter when we have safe, healthy, and drug-free communities and this recognition is a clear demonstration of our purpose in action as we work to create healthier futures for all,” said Gina Clark, Chief Communications and Administration Officer at AmerisourceBergen and President of the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. “Now more than ever, organizations have an opportunity to help drive sustainable social impact. We look forward to the ongoing opportunity to mobilize, accelerate, and uplift the incredible work of CADCA through our continued partnership.”
CADCA will also honor a juggernaut in the defense industry and a truly remarkable, innovative person, Ms. Rose McElrath Slade and her team at Strategic Resources, Inc. In addition, CADCA will also honor the Mark and Brenda Moore Family Foundation whose efforts are saving lives and changing the social landscape of substance use disorders with the Nathaniel J. Sutton Advocacy in the Arts Award. Because the Drug-Free Kids Campaign helps support CADCA’s youth training efforts, attendees will hear from two outstanding young leaders: Sofia Ferreiro, a high school senior from Levittown, New York and Jaleyna Lawes, a freshman at Yale University.
Anita Brikman, Senior Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs, and Executive Director, CHPA Educational Foundation, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Roger Krone, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Leidos and Jason Sundby Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Verde Technologies will serve as the Chair and Vice-Chair of the event.
