Strategizers – a series of publications that offer concise, proven solutions to issues facing coalitions. Designed to provide step-by-step guidance, Strategizers range in topics from how to start a coalition, advocacy, getting the faith community involved, youth programs, conducting evaluations to reducing underage drinking, prescription drug abuse prevention, the myths of marijuana, effective prevention strategies, and community mobilization.

Strategizer 55, Regulating Alcohol Outlet Density: An Action Guide, outlines available evidence-based community prevention strategies shown to decrease the consequences associated with alcohol outlet density, the concentration of bars, restaurants serving alcohol, liquor and package stores in a given geographic area. The publication was developed by CADCA in partnership with the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth (CAMY) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Strategizer 54, A Community’s Call to Action: Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving, is meant to help prevention practitioners create multi-layered prevention and intervention strategies to curb underage drinking among teens, and to prevent impaired driving among young adults ages 21-24. Developed in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Strategizer 54 provides the latest facts, strategies and resources that coalitions and MADD Affiliates can use to address these issues in their communities.

Developed in collaboration with the Office of National Drug Control Strategy, Strategizer 53: Preventing Methamphetamine Use In Your Community offers strategies that coalitions can use to prevent meth use and to spread the word that meth treatment works. The publication contains the tools necessary to create a localized community action and media campaign and highlights best practices in meth abuse prevention.

Developed in collaboration with the ONDCP’s National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, Strategizer 52, Teen Prescription Drug Abuse: An Emerging Threat, provides the latest facts on prescription drug abuse or misuse among youth, strategies that prevention practitioners can use to address this issue in their communities, and best practices from coalitions across the country.

The Weed and Seed Toolbox, Strategizer 51, was developed by CADCA in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO). This in-depth manual provides coalitions and Weed and Seed Communities with the tools to craft better and more sustainable prevention and intervention strategies to improve conditions in neighborhoods or communities, making them better, healthier, and safer places to live and work.

With the support of Phamatech, Inc., this new Strategizer helps coalitions gain a better understanding of how drug testing fits into the prevention/intervention picture, featuring examples of testing in action and steps that coalitions can take to integrate drug testing into their community prevention strategy.

This Strategizer provides specific information about two major funding sources for community coalitions—the Weed and Seed initiative and the Drug-Free Communities Support Program.
