Patrick D. Sargent, Senior Vice President and General Manager – Cerner Government Services
Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Patrick Sargent joined Cerner as Senior Vice President (SVP) and General Manager (GM) of Cerner Government Services, where he leads all federal client account management. Prior to joining Cerner, Pat served as the SVP, Federal Healthcare Sector at Optum Serve (Optum and UnitedHealth Group). Pat joined Cerner because he believes this is where he can help influence the next evolution in how we deliver care and promote medical readiness, health and wellbeing within DOD, VA, and throughout the United States and beyond.

Pat was born and raised in Panama City, Florida. He graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science. As a Distinguished Military Graduate, he earned a Regular Army Commission in the Adjutant General Corps. As a Lieutenant, he branched transferred to
the Medical Service Corps and became an Aeromedical Evacuation Pilot. He is a graduate of the Adjutant General Basic and Aviation Officer Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College and the National War College. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Human Resources Development from Webster University and a Master of Science Degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College. As a broadening assignment he was selected as an Army Congressional Fellow and served on the staff of US Senator Richard J. Durbin working on his DOD and VA portfolios.

His 35-year career included prominent staff and command positions in peace and war: 18th Chief of the US Army’s Medical Service Corps, DCG-O for US Army Medical Command; Commander US Army Medical Center of Excellence; Commander Pacific Regional Health Command (PRMC); Commander Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center; Chief of Staff, Warrior Transition Command; Commander, 62nd Medical Brigade; Commander, 421st Evacuation Battalion; Commander 507th Medical Company (Air Ambulance); and Commander, Charlie Company, 115th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division. These diverse and broadening leadership positions afforded him unique opportunities to observe, understand, adapt and lead transformation within large complex healthcare systems in environments of immense uncertainty and change.

Most notably, Pat led the Army’s Medical Diplomacy efforts in support Pacific Command and the US Army Pacific Command to achieve US interests in the INDO/Pacific Area of Operations. He is also, intimately familiar with DoD’s electronic health record modernization (EHR), having provided oversight for Madigan Army Medical Center’s deployment of the solution. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Pat led the Combat Healthcare System in Iraq for 15-months supporting US and Coalition Partners. As the Army’s General Officer champion, he led the Army Medical Department’s doctrinal transformation of the Army Institutional, Generating and Operational Forces with a singular focus on readiness, patient safety and the delivery of evidence-based medical care on/above the battlefield and within Military Medical Treatment Facilities.

Pat is board certified in Healthcare Administration and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is a member of the Order of Military Medical Merit and Order of Saint Michael. He is the recipient of the Tuskegee Airman, Inc. prestigious General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. National Military Award. Mr. Sargent earned the Army Surgeon General’s prestigious 9A Proficiency Designator for being eminently qualified as an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer. He was selected as The ROCKS, Inc. ROCK of the Year and Distinguished Alumnus of the Florida State University, College of Social Sciences and Public Policy.

Pat’s awards, decorations and honors include the Distinguished Service Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), Legion of Merit (with three oak leaf clusters), Bronze Star Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with four Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters) and an Army Achievement Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster). He has earned the Expert Field Medical Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Parachute Qualification Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.

Pat is an avid fan of the Florida State Seminoles, Pat also enjoys golfing and reading.
