CADCA’s Youth Leadership Track

It is evident that there are issues we face in our communities and there has never been a time like the present for youth to rise to leadership roles in their coalitions. CADCA's Youth Leadership Training Courses develop critical thinking skills in youth and equips them with necessary tools to help your coalition achieve community-level change. Our training empowers young people to take youth-led civic action in their communities. Coalitions across the country are sending their youth through the rigors of these courses to help them work together more effectively.

The Key Essentials Course equips participants with the foundational tools needed to take the first steps in solving their communities’ problems around drugs, underage drinking, prescription drugs and other social ills using the Strategic Prevention Framework.

The Advanced Course is only open to coalitions who have completed the Key Essentials Course and are committed to taking their work a step further. A deeper focus is placed on Leadership, Advocacy and Policy and Intervention Strategies. *Teams must submit products prior to attending (DUE June 1st) to nyli@cadca.org: Coalition Community Assessment (with data), Logic Model (with data), Youth In Action Project. If these products are not received, you will be re-registered for the Key Essentials Course.

FAQs

What are the age requirements?

The Youth Leadership Courses are designed for ages 13-18 year olds; however, email us if you have an exception.

Are adults required to participate with the youth in youth leadership courses?

Yes. Teams should have at least one adult advisor to guide their youth throughout the process. This is not a chaperone role, but instead a coach/mentor from the coalition who will support the implementation of strategies developed upon returning to the coalition.

What are the requirements for attending the Advanced Course?

In order to participate in the Advanced Course, students must have completed the Key Essentials and submitted the following items by June 1st 1) Your Coalition’s Community Assessment (with data); 2)  Logic Model (with data); and 3) Youth In Action Plan (with 7 change strategies)

What is the attire?

The attire is business casual during training sessions. Nothing too tight, loose, short or revealing.

What to bring?

A pen/pencil, a desire to make a difference in your community. If your coalition has this, you may want to bring your community data (for ex: youth survey data)

Do the youth follow the same adult schedule?

Yes and no. For the most part youth will follow the main Mid-Year Schedule with the exception of the Youth Meet-Up. Please see schedule below for more details. Schedule is subject to change, so please check back prior to your departure.
