CADCA has been raising awareness of the dangers of prescription drug abuse and over-the-counter cough medicine abuse during National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month (NMAAM) all October long. The month has been in full-swing with myriad activities. One way you can participate in NMAAM is by participating in CADCA’s Twitter Chat next week. That’s right, CADCA is hosting a virtual discussion with Office of National Drug Control Policy’s Deputy Director of State, Local, and Tribal Affairs Mary Lou Leary.
The chat is a unique opportunity to ask the Deputy Director questions, gain insights into ONDCP’s Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention plan, and learn about the different ways to support the initiative. Already have a question in mind? Great! Tweet your question to @CADCA today using the hashtag #RXAbuseAware and we may use it to kick off the conversation.
When: Wednesday, October 28 from 1-2 p.m. EST
How to Tune In:
1. Log into your Twitter account and visit TweetChat.com.
2. Authorize TweetChat to connect with your Twitter account.
3. Enter the hashtag #RxAbuseAware. This will bring you into the chat area.
Looking for resources to promote your own campaign? Download CADCA’s special toolkit on PreventRxAbuse.org. Each week, we have shared new tools. This week’s theme is “Our Schools.” Next week’s theme is “Law Enforcement Community.” We will even have a blog by Chuck Rosenberg, Acting Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
There’s still time to register for the CADCA 50 Challenge when your coalition hosts a town hall meeting or another type of educational event about BOTH prescription drug abuse and OTC cough medicine abuse in your community during October. One coalition will even be named CADCA’s Dose of Prevention Award winner and receive this honor at CADCA’s National Leadership Forum in February in Washington, D.C. So, are you up for the challenge? If so, please complete the form here.
Is your coalition reducing medicine abuse by operating a permanent drop box? Don’t forget to list them on https://rxdrugdropbox.org/.
CADCA also thanks its sponsors for making our NMAAM campaign possible. What began with one partner Consumer Healthcare Products Association in 2008, has expanded to include additional sponsors: McNeil Healthcare, Healthcare Distribution Management Association, and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, and partners Gannett and The Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University.
