Washington, D.C. – CADCA’s 2019 National Leadership Forum, held February 4-7, 2019 at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD, is poised to be a historic event. Record-breaking youth involvement, federal partner participation, and the attendance of some of the most recognized substance misuse prevention advocates in the world ensures that this event will be momentous for the prevention community.

With more than 430 youth registered to attend, the 29th annual National Leadership Forum has broken a record for youth involvement. More than 20 sessions are being offered to youth prevention advocates, giving them the skills they need to influence their peers and apply CADCA’s prevention model in their own communities.

In addition, more than 70 sessions will be offered to adult attendees, including personalized sessions from the national organizations that guide policy and research for prevention throughout the U.S. This includes sessions presented by the leaders of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

The most influential prevention leaders in the nation will also be speaking at Forum. This includes U.S. Surgeon General VADM Jerome Adams, ONDCP Director Jim Carroll, Acting Administrator of the DEA Uttam Dhillon, SAMHSA Assistant Secretary for Mental Health Elinore McCance-Katz, NIDA Director Nora D. Volkow, and NIAAA Director George F. Koob. CADCA is also proud to welcome a Congressional Panel of speakers for the National Leadership Plenary, including Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Representative Susan Brooks (R-IN), Representative Bill Johnson (R-OH), and Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY).

“It is an honor for CADCA to be able to bring together prevention leaders from across the nation and the world to learn from one another, influence national prevention policy, and develop the skills to create safe, healthy, and drug-free communities,” said CADCA’s Chairman and CEO, General Arthur T. Dean. “This year’s National Leadership Forum has surpassed our expectations, and will undoubtedly change the face of national prevention strategy for years to come.”

More than 1100 Forum attendees representing over 400 community coalitions have also registered for Capitol Hill Day, and will meet with members of both the House and the Senate. During these meetings, coalition members will work to convey the importance of national funding for prevention, and inform our nation’s leaders about the specific needs in their communities.
