Resolve Conflict, Retain Volunteers in Course at CADCA’s Mid-Year Training Institute

Learn how to ‘Accentuate the Positive – Conflict Management for Coalition Leaders’ at CADCA’s Mid-Year Training Institute next month. CADCA’s Special Assistant to the Chairman and CEO, Dr. John L. Harrison, Sr., will share his decades of military experience and leadership expertise in this unique course offered for a full work day as individual sessions Aug. 4-5.

This course is designed for attendees who are designated leaders of existing coalitions. Through completion of the “Strength Deployment Inventory,” facilitated discussion, classroom team exercises, and related “Action Planning,” participants will develop new skills.

Course outcomes include improved leader interpersonal effectiveness, increased understanding of the role that one’s “Motivational Value System” has on the workplace, and how such understanding can positively influence workplace climate, employee satisfaction and coalition effectiveness and sustainability. Most importantly, in the company of other community anti-drug coalition leaders, attendees will hear, see and feel new outlooks and obtain fresh ideas to take home to “accentuate the positive” in their communities.

“As crazy as it may sound, people who acknowledge and accept that there is going to be conflict in their world are in a better position to channel it towards positive results. So, taking a careful look at the issue, how it presents itself in life and work, and then seeking ways to live with it while enhancing essential inter-personal relationships is key to success,” Harrison said. “You might say one of the outcomes of the training is giving the coalition leaders an opportunity to ‘fine tune’ their leadership and problem solving approaches to work.”

Harrison holds a Doctor of Management degree and SPHR professional certification and besides working at CADCA, he is an Adjunct Professor of Leadership and Management, Global Campus, Central Michigan University.
