Since 2020, CADCA and Walmart have partnered to educate community members about naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. Walmart developed a virtual reality naloxone training module to educate the public on who should carry it, where to access it, how to recognize the signs of an overdose, and how to properly administer the medication. Together, we’ve been working to increase community readiness to respond to an opioid overdose.  

In recognition of Naloxone Awareness Day on June 6, CADCA is proud to spotlight this ongoing partnership and the local coalitions that have made this work possible. Through a series of 35 naloxone awareness events held nationwide, we’ve highlighted the important role that all community members play in addressing the overdose crisis and preventing overdose deaths. These events feature Walmart’s VR training and a wide range of speakers, including legislators, first responders, concerned family members, and leaders in the field of prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery.  

These naloxone awareness events have been hosted throughout the country to raise awareness, reduce stigma and demonstrate the important work coalitions are contributing to their communities. The majority of our past events are available for viewing on CADCA’s YouTube channel.
