CADCA offers free coalition development and outreach support to help increase the effectiveness of community coalitions across America. Coalition Development Support (CDS) is free and unlimited by phone, email and web. CADCA offers on-site CDS at many of its trainings and events.

Virtual National Coalition Academy Bootcamp

The National Coalition Academy (NCA) Virtual Bootcamp Training is a condensed version of the three-week long National Coalition Academy. It teaches leaders “what they need to know” (the core competencies) and “what their team needs to do” (the essential processes) to establish or maintain a highly effective substance use prevention coalition.

This FREE four-day training is a condensed version of the three-week long National Coalition Academy.

Beyond the National Coalition Academy

Beyond the National Coalition Academy provides an opportunity to learn how to become a successful coalition and foster relationships with other coalitions around the country. This comprehensive training provides all the tools, resources and information coalitions need to build a successful drug-free community!

Graduate Coalition Academy (GCA)

The Graduate Coalition Academy (GCA) will be returning soon.

The Graduate Coalition Academy (GCA) focuses on coalitions bringing knowledge and skills to their coalition, which enables them to build coalition capacity and complete six key products take coalitions to the next step: Getting Outcomes.

The goal of the GCA is to enhance participating coalitions’ ability to implement and evaluate their prevention plans. Over the course of a year, participating coalitions will focus on updating and using their products to achieve a variety of learning outcomes.

National Coalition Academy (NCA)

The National Coalition Academy (NCA) is a comprehensive training program, developed by the National Coalition Institute (NCI), that teaches leaders “what they need to know” (the core competencies) and “what their team needs to do” (the essential processes) to establish or maintain a highly effective anti-drug coalition.

The NCA is designed specifically for coalition staff and volunteer leadership. It combines three weeks of classroom training, three reinforcement online sessions and access to a web-based workstation. The Academy’s training curriculum is organized within SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.

By the end of the year-long training, in order to graduate, coalitions will have developed five essential products: (1) a community assessment, (2) a logic model, (3) a strategic & action plan, (4) an evaluation plan and (5) a sustainability plan.

What is the Coalition Academy Graduation?

– Graduation is the culmination of the training and technical assistance received by the participating coalitions and their transfer of the knowledge and processes learned back to their community. To successfully graduate, coalitions will be required to complete a community assessment, logic model, strategic and action plan, evaluation plan and sustainability plan.
– Individual Academy participants will receive certificates to recognize their coursework at the end of each training week. However, it is the Coalition that will be recognized as the graduate at the graduation ceremonies held during the CADCA National Leadership Forum in the Washington DC metropolitan area in February 2026.
– Academy graduation indicates that the coalition has completed the coursework and the application of the knowledge gained to complete the products the coalition will use to guide their work in achieving population level change in their community.

Do I have to attend all three weeks of training?

One attendee from your coalition has to attend all three weeks of training. The second attendee can be different each week, or even one week, if swaps have to be made based on scheduling.

Cost & Payment

How much does this Academy cost?

A flat fee of $4,250.

What does the registration fee cover?

It covers registration for two participants from one coalition. The training experience will include: three weeks of virtual classroom learning, three reinforcement webinars between training weeks, as well as one-on-one coaching from a dedicated CADCA coalition development support coach, as needed, for the duration of the training.

What are the dates of the National Coalition Academy?

There will be 90-minute reinforcement webinars scheduled after each training week, to be jointly decided on with the trainers and cohort attendees.

What is the timing each day?

How will this Academy take place?

All three weeks will be fully virtual. A calendar invitation with the link will be sent out in advance of each training week, as well as prior to each reinforcement webinar.

How will I be able to access materials related to this training?

Participant workbooks will be sent to each coalition, and other materials will be housed on CADCA’s Learning Management System, which all attendees will receive access to.

Overview

What is the National Coalition Academy?

– The National Coalition Academy (NCA) is a comprehensive training program developed by CADCA’s Institute that teaches leaders the skills and processes necessary to effectively implement the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). The NCA is designed specifically for coalition staff and volunteer leadership. It combines three weeks of classroom training, three online sessions and access to a web‐ based Learning Management System (LMS). The Academy’s training curriculum is organized within the SPF. By the end of the year‐ long training, coalitions will develop five essential products:

– Community Assessment
– Logic Model
– Strategic and Action Plan
– Evaluation Plan & Evaluation Communication Plan
– Sustainability Plan

 The Academy is made up of four major elements:

– Classroom Instruction: Instruction is provided to trainees from each participating community coalition. The instruction consists of 12 classroom days divided into three week‐ long sessions. The classroom instruction helps participants develop their skills in the SPF processes.
– CADCA Learning Management System (LMS): The CADCA LMS provides a web‐ based tool for attendees to do their work at the NCA and with their community coalition. The LMS provides a platform for each community to share their planning products for review. The LMS is a convenient way for participants to stay connected to instructors, support staff and (most importantly) each other.
– Reinforcement Training and Technical Assistance Sessions: Support is provided between classes through web‐ based distance training, one‐ on‐ one support from CADCA staff and assistance from coalition instructors.
– Coalition Development Support (CDS): Academy attendees and their coalitions may receive Coalition Development Support throughout their training experience and beyond. The National Coalition Institute’s CDS Team provides support to coalitions on all elements of the SPF to assist coalitions in all stages of their development by providing brief and customized support essential to overcoming challenges and increasing the effectiveness of coalition efforts

By the end of the Academy, participants will have learned the skills and facilitated the processes within their coalition to have developed a community assessment, logic model, action plan, intervention plan, evaluation plan and a sustainability plan to guide their work. Additionally, coalitions often utilize these guiding documents to secure additional partnerships and resources for the coalition including using the guiding documents as the framework for successful local, state, and federal grant applications.

State-Level Trainings

The course work at a Statewide Coalition Academy aligns with the NCA and focuses on providing information, tools, skills and processes necessary for the participating coalitions to produce five key products or guiding documents essential to the work of a successful coalition.  The Statewide Coalition Academy helps develop the skills and processes of participating community coalitions to implement all phases of the Strategic Prevention Framework.

Aliança Geográfica de Equidade em Saúde

A Geographic Health Equity Alliance (GHEA), uma CADCA initiative, is a CDC funded Rede Nacional dedicated to reducing geographic health disparities related to tobacco and cancer. The GHEA network supports the implementation of effective public health practices in places that need them the most. We work closely with state tobacco and cancer programs and their partners to provide training and support on how to reduce health disparities and improve the health of communities across our nation.

Internacional

A CADCA oferece treinamento, assistência técnica e outros recursos na estratégia de coalizões comunitárias para instituições governamentais, organizações não-governamentais e grupos comunitários em vários países afetados pelo cultivo, tráfico e uso de drogas ilícitas. O treinamento internacional da CADCA oferece competências e habilidades essenciais necessárias para ajudar a criar uma cultura de legalidade e trazer reduções – no nível da comunidade – nas taxas de uso de drogas ilícitas. Os programas internacionais da CADCA ajudaram a criar mais de 300 coalizões em 28 países nos cinco continentes desde a sua criação em 2005. There are 11,349 international coalition members globally.

Instituto de treinamento de meio de ano

Held for 4 days during the summer, the Mid-Year Training Institute (MYTI) offers in-depth, interactive training sessions geared specifically for community coalition leaders and staff. MYTI also includes two levels of training for the National Youth Leadership Initiative activities (i.e., Key Essentials and Advanced). From fundamentals of coalition building and strategic planning to evaluation and research, you will walk away motivated and inspired. The MYTI is held in a different city each year in either late July or early August. This event will take place at Hilton Chicago, located in Chicago, IL from July 14-18, 2024. Registration details are forthcoming.

Fórum Nacional de Liderança

CADCA’s National Leadership Forum is a 4-day conference packed with multiple adult and youth-oriented opportunities to learn the latest strategies to fight substance use and misuse and hear from nationally-known experts and policymakers with a full day dedicated to Capitol Hill events. The Forum is held in the Washington, DC area every year, normally the first week of February and brings together more than 3,000 participants representing community anti-drug coalitions, government leaders, youth, addiction treatment professionals, researchers, educators, law enforcement professionals, youth and faith-based leaders. This event is held every year at Gaylord National, located in National Harbor, MD.
