That’s why CADCA is launching Competencies in Focus, a new monthly webinar series developed in partnership with the Center for Public Health Systems Science at Washington University in St. Louis.
This series will spotlight our newly developed Coalition Competencies, a research-backed framework designed to equip coalitions with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Each webinar will explore one of the 18 competencies, breaking down what it means, how it was developed, and how you can apply it in your own work. You’ll gain early access to materials, hear examples from the field, and gain new insights to improve your coalition’s strategy.

Competencies in Focus: Sustainability

The first webinar in the series will explore what truly drives sustainability, beyond just funding. We’ll break down the eight key areas that are critical to your coalition’s future, including partnerships, capacity, evaluation, and more. This webinar will also include a practical example from the field, illustrating how a coalition used planning for sustainability to build lasting partnerships, adapt to challenges, and ultimately thrive.
What are the Coalition Competencies?
Developed through over three years of research and informed by coalition leaders across the country, CADCA’s Coalition Competencies define the critical knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for effective prevention work. They are organized into three domains:
- Operations: Building and sustaining coalition infrastructure.

- Prevention: Implementing specialized strategies for lasting impact.
