When is the National Leadership Forum?
The National Leadership Forum will be held February 1-4, 2016
 
Where is the Forum being held?
The Forum will be held at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.

Where can I find the full Schedule of Events?
Why is CADCA’s National Leadership Forum always held in the Washington, D.C. area?
The answer is simple: Capitol Hill. CADCA’s Forum is not only an opportunity for our attendees to network and receive top-notch training, it’s an opportunity for the industry’s top federal leaders and members of Congress to meet the people who are on the ground fighting substance abuse everyday. It’s also an opportunity for our members to have an in-person conversations with their U.S. Senators and Representatives and educate them about the importance of funding substance abuse prevention programs, like the Drug Free Communities program and other critical initiatives. These things can only be accomplished by meeting in our nation’s capital and if lawmakers don’t hear from our members and attendees or have an understanding of how powerful the coalition field is, many of the outstanding prevention programs that our attendees support would fall by the wayside.
 
Why is CADCA’s National Leadership Forum always held in February, during the winter season?
To save our attendees and their organizations money! While admittedly Washington, DC is much more pleasant in the Spring or Summer, the prices increase dramatically in the warmer seasons, with hotel rates doubling in some cases. So, to keep the cost down for the attendee’s bottom line, we have to hold the Forum during off-peak times – December through early-March.
 
Why did you move the location of the Forum from the Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington to the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center located just outside of Washington, D.C in Maryland?
For starters, since the Forum takes place in winter many of our attendees commented that the walk from the Washington Convention Center to the Renaissance Marriott or the other Forum hotels was too far and too cold – and sometimes even dangerous if the sidewalks and roads were icy. In addition, since our group is now too large to fit at one hotel, when the Forum was held at the DC Convention Center, attendees had to spread out at several hotels. We heard feedback that having people staying at multiple hotels was not conducive to networking. We solved that problem by moving to the Gaylord where the meeting rooms and hotel rooms are all under one roof. In addition, the room rates are about $180 less per night at the Gaylord – again, saving additional dollars that can be invested back into our attendee’s organizations.

How do I register?
Individuals are encouraged to register online through the CADCA website, but there is also a print form available that can be faxed in to CADCA. The online registration system is open now if you have end-of-the-year money to spend, or you can download the form and mail/fax your form to us now.

Guest access is intended for a spouse traveling with a paying attendee.  Guest access is limited to the welcome reception, continental breakfasts, breaks, and exhibits only (no courses).  Coalition colleagues, industry employees, exhibitor representatives not covered under the exhibitor registration, CADCA members, co-presenters, etc. do not qualify as a guest. Guests must also accompany a registered delegate on the registration form (i.e. you can’t register yourself individually as a guest attendee).

 

PREVENTION DAY

COMPLIMENTARY

Attendance at SAMHSA’s Prevention Day is complimentary. If you plan to register for just Prevention Day, you will be required to register online (paper forms will not be accepted).

 
What is the age cut-off for a Youth & Young Adult registration?
Anyone 13 - 18 years of age is considered a Youth and anyone between the age of 18 - 21 is considered a young adult. Anyone 21 years of age and older must register at the Adult rate.
 
What does the registration include?
- Access to all sessions in all tracks, February 1-4
- Admission to the Exhibition Hall
- CADCA bag and informational program
- Access to all session handouts and powerpoint presentations (pending permission to post from speakers)
- Breakfast Tuesday through Thursday (continental Tue-Wed and full breakfast Thu)
- Networking Reception
- Lunch on Thursday
- Coffee breaks Tuesday and Thursday
- Participation in the Capitol Hill Luncheon Reception and Congressional Appointments
 
What are the requirements for a Group registration?
Your group must contain a minimum of five (5) paying individuals (speakers receiving a discounted rate and one-day registrations are not eligible).Groups of 5 or more receive a discount on the early-bird and regular rates only. All groups must register and pay by January 16, 2016. There are no On-Site Group rates.
In order to be eligible for the group discount, your group must meet ALL of the following requirements:
1) All individuals must be associated with the SAME coalition or organization
2) The coalition or organization must be a member of CADCA (if a non-member, you must purchase a membership to get the reduced group rate)
3) Your group must contain a minimum of 5 FULL-PAYING individuals (scholarship recipients, speakers and spouses/guest do not count towards members of the group)
4) To be eligible for the group rate, all members must be registered at the same time and pay in one transaction using one form of payment. Cancellations that cause the group to drop below 5 will receive partial refund.
 
I am not a CADCA member, can I join and register at the same time to get the member rate?
Yes, you can now join online. Once your membership is processed, you can continue on to register online at the reduced member rate. Membership rates are subject to increase on Jan 1, 2016.
What does a guest registration fee cover?

What does a one-day registration include?
You can register to attend for just one day (Tuesday or Thursday) and your registration fees includes all the activities, workshops and meals for that one day. Your badge will be marked so you will not be able to attend functions on any other day without paying the full registration fee.
 
Will I receive written confirmation of my registration?
Yes. Online submissions will receive an email confirmation shortly after submission while faxed submissions will receive confirmation shortly after they have been processed. The email also serves as an invoice (checks) or a receipt (credit card.)
 
When and where will I get my registration materials and ribbons?
You can pick-up your materials on site during registration hours at the Gaylord National Hotel and registration will be located in the Ballroom Foyer on Level 2.

What is your cancellation policy?
All requests for cancellations must be submitted in writing via E-MAIL or FAX (703) 706-0573 by January 16, 2015. Cancellation requests that are received by January 16 will be processed less a $75 administrative fee. Refunds will be processed within 45 business days after the meeting. There will be NO refunds after January 16 and refunds or credits will not be given for failure to attend, late arrival, unattended events or early departure. By submitting a registration form, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
 
What is your substitution policy?
One attendee’s name can be substituted for another by emailing both names, coalitions and email addresses to forum@cadca.org with the subject line SUBSTITUTION.
 
If I’m registered to attend just the Prevention Day on Monday, can I also attend the workshops held throughout the rest of the week?
No but if you’d like to attend the full week, please register to attend the Forum. Your badge will be marked so you will not be able to attend functions after Monday without paying the full registration fee.
 
Do exhibitors need to register?
Each booth includes a certain number of registrations which are full meeting registration. The main contact for each organization will receive a separate registration form to complete for their booth personnel.
 
Can an exhibitor pass along any unused comp badges to anyone?
No – only employees of the exhibiting organization can receive an exhibitor comp registration.
 
What do I do if I forgot my badge in my hotel room or lost it?
Badges will not be reprinted. Please remember that your badge is to be worn at all times during the conference. YOu can even use your badge in the surrounding restaurants and shops for discounts.
 
Presenters
 
Do presenters get a complimentary registration?
Only the primary presenter will get a comp registration.  If there is a 2nd presenter, their registration fee will be $400 and if there is a 3rd presenter, they will pay the full applicable rate.
 
Will a Speaker Ready Room be available on site to review my presentation?
Yes. A room with computers will be set aside for presenters to review their presentation. Please check your Final Program for the room assignment and hours.
 
When should workshop presenters preview their PowerPoint?
Presenters are asked to preview their PowerPoint at least 4 hours prior to their presentation time. We ask that all presenters use the computers provided in the speaker ready room which are also the same as in the meeting rooms. If you have any videos embedded or sound, etc., this will give you the chance the make sure it all flows properly prior to your presentation to avoid any embarrassing delays.
 
What if a speaker needs to cancel last minute or switch presenters?
Please contact Samantha Moore at smoore@cadca.org as soon as possible so we can make sure the Final Program is as up to date as possible. We must receive written notification of all changes and any changes will have to be approved by CADCA.
 
What if a speaker needs to add a/v equipment for their presentation?
Please contact Samantha Moore at smoore@cadca.org as soon as possible. The room will be set with the following equipment: screen, LCD projector, PC, 1 podium mic and 1 wireless lavaliere mic. If you need any other equipment, we can certainly arrange for the rental but you will be responsible for any additional costs. 
 
Program
 
Can I take photos during a workshop or of a poster?
Only if the presenter approves.
 
Can I take my child to my workshop?
Children (those not attending the NYLI) are restricted to just the exhibit hall (and must be accompanied by an adult) and are NOT allowed access to the workshop meeting rooms.
 
What if someone is looking for a workshop evaluation form?
A room monitor will be stationed at each workshop and they have copies of the evaluations for that particular workshop.
 
What are tracks and workshops?
Conference sessions are labeled with a track or area of interest to identify the subjects addressed in the session. You may choose to follow one track throughout the conference or pick and choose sessions from any track. Workshops are 75 minutes each held on Tuesday and Thursday throughout the day (and a select few on Wednesday afternoon). Workshops are on a first-come, first-served basis so arrive early! Youth Program
 
What is the age cut-off for a Youth registration?
Anyone 13 - 18 years of age is considered a Youth and anyone between the age of 18 - 21 is considered a young adult. Anyone 21 years of age and older must register at the Adult rate.
 
Can youth attend the NYLI or Summit for Youth Leaders on their own?  
Youth can attend the Summit and Advocay & Public Policy course on their own but must be accompanied by an adult if they plan to attend the NYLI Key Essentials Training Sessions. The chaperoning adult must also be registered to attend the Forum at the applicable rate.
 
What is the registration cost for attending the NYLI or Summit for Youth Leaders?
Please refer to the registration section above for all the applicable rates for individuals and groups.
 
What is the NYLI?
This intensive competency-based leadership training is a flagship CADCA workforce development program that teaches strategies to create and nurture the growth of committed young leaders through their work within coalitions. The NYLI Experience helps youth and their adult coaches develop an action plan that clearly defines strategies that young leaders will carry out to address the problems and goals that the coalition is striving to affect. Join us for a leadership experience that reflects our motto: “Youth-led and Adult-guided.” CADCA has developed a curriculum for the NYLI Experience so we are not taking proposals for this track.
 
REQUIREMENTS: To participate in NYLI Key Essentials, both youth and their adult advisors must attend ALL NYLI Key Essentials sessions throughout Forum week. Adults must attend with at least one youth and pay the adult registration rate. All youth must provide the Parent/Guardian Consent Form to CADCA by January 16, e-mail or fax 703-706-0573.
 
What is the Summit for Youth?
Youth from across the country are working to keep their communities’ safe, healthy and drug free! Participants in this track will have the opportunity to increase their skills and knowledge by attending a series of interactive workshops. An emphasis will be placed on progressive strategies for community work and state-of-the art presentation techniques. Proposals of particular interest include those that address comprehensive approaches to developing youth advocates, implementing civic-led change movements, and training youth as change agents to foster systems change. This track is for young people and interested adults.

Is it expensive to get to the Gaylord from Ronald Reagan National Airport?
No. There is a Metro stop right at the airport, so you can take the metro to the Eisenhower Metro stop and then take CADCA’s free shuttle from the Eisenhower Metro stop to the Gaylord. Click here for more information.

What is the CADCA group rate at the meeting venue – the Gaylord National Resort?
The CADCA group rate is $221 per night plus tax.  Rates do not increase with additional guests in room (same rate for 1-4 people in room)!
 
How does holding the Forum at the Gaylord save participants money?
Hotel rates at the Gaylord and its surrounding hotels are much cheaper than in downtown Washington, D.C. For example, rooms at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel near the Washington Convention Center during the same week as the Forum start at $489/night and rooms at JW Marriott in Washington start at $405/night. When you compare that to the Gaylord’s $221 nightly rate, that’s a huge cost savings for your organization.
 
Does everyone have to book their own hotel accommodations?
Yes. Everyone has to book their own hotel reservations except for award recipients, ambassadors, and scholarship recipients.
 
Is there a reservation deadline date?
Yes. The reservation deadline date is January 11, 2016.

Miscellaneous
 
Is there internet access anywhere at the meeting?
Yes. There is free internet access in each sleeping room along with an internet café which will be located in the exhibit hall throughout the week of the meeting. There will be NO wifi service in the training session rooms.
 
Is there a business center at the Gaylord if someone needs to make copies, etc?
Yes. The 11th Hour business center is located between the main hotel lobby and CADCA’s registration on Level 2.
 
Are there low-cost food options at the Gaylord?
Yes, there are a number of food outlets at the hotel to meet all budget levels. In addition, there are several reasonably priced restaurants located at the National Harbor, such as Potbellys Sandwich Works, Elevation Burger and McLoone’s Pier House, Baja Fresh, Subway, Fiorella’s Pizzeria e Café and Freshii, McDonald’s, etc.
 
Does CADCA provide babysitting services?
No however the hotel concierge can certainly assist you in reserving the service for you.
 
What is the dress code?
Business attire.
 
Do you accommodate special needs?
Yes, simply provide the information on your registration form and we will be happy to assist you. Wheelchair rentals are available, please contact the hotel concierge for rates and additional information.
