Given how much we know about the important role that the media can play in helping to inform people's opinions about key issues, I was thrilled that CNN called CADCA on Thursday, June 23rd, to ask us to weigh in about the bill to remove marijuana, not just from Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act, but from the list of controlled substances completely, thereby basically legalizing it.

CADCA’s Chairman and CEO’s Account on Testifying on Prescription Drug Abuse

On April 14, I had the distinct honor of testifying on prescription drug abuse before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade as part of a diverse panel of experts that included national non-profits, federal regulators, state governors, family members of victims of prescription drug abuse, the pharmaceutical industry, health professionals, and other stakeholders. The hearing was called by Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), who chairs the subcommittee, and Ranking Member Rep. G. K. Butterfield (D-N.C.).

If you’re coming to CADCA’s National Leadership Forum – held just outside of Washington, D.C. EUDL Program Receives Substantial Cut in Minibus Bill, but is Still Funded

Earlier this week, the House and Senate created a “minibus” bill, which wraps three FY 2012 appropriations bills into one. The three appropriations bills include: (1) Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) (2) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies, and (3) Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies. The conference report for the minibus indicates that the bill contains $5 million in FY 2012 funding for the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) program.
