Youth Recruitment - Beyond the Basics

Tuesday, February 4, 2020
3:30 PM
4:45 PM
National Harbor 4-5

Where do we find young people to lead and participate effectively in our coalition work? How do we keep them involved? What do we do as our star young people age out and move on? Coalitions face many challenges in our ongoing efforts to engage youth. Fortunately, there are strategies, both time-tested and innovative, for overcoming these challenges. In this intensive, interactive workshop, we will learn and share specific tactics that address recruiting, keeping, and cultivating young people and their essential contributions. Through a mix of presentation, discussion and activities, participants in this workshop will increase their capacity for authentic, effective youth involvement.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Learn innovative ways to recruit young leaders from nontraditional areas.

2) Gain understanding of effective scheduling, meeting facilitation and communication that encourages retention of young leaders.

3) Learn how to develop a plan for institutionalizing youth involvement even as specific young people age out of our coalitions.
