Your State Commercialized Marijuana...Now What?

Thursday, 02/07/2019
9:00 AM
10:15 AM
National Harbor 2-3

Description

As prevention specialists, we understand the power local level initiatives have on impacting access and availability to substances. This session will provide a roadmap of the success of one Massachusetts town that opted-out of retail sales, growing, cultivation and testing using lessons from tobacco and alcohol policy. You will learn how you can advocate to implement public health regulations, prevention polices and zoning restrictions through your coalitions or as individuals in your hometowns. This session will present a comprehensive review of multi-pronged approaches at the state and local levels to opt-out and mitigate the impacts of commercialized marijuana.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to learn why, how, and when your community can opt-out before and after marijuana commercialization has passed in your state, learn what prevention, public health, and zoning strategies your community can undertake to mitigate the impacts of commercialized marijuana, and learn how to work collaboratively statewide to amend marijuana commercialization statutes to reduce access, availability, and advertisement.
