The Whole is Greater than the Sum of Its Parts: Cross-Sector Collaboration
Coalition work is all about collaboration and partnership, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. Cross sector collaboration can be tricky, but when done right it exponentially increases the impact sectors can have in the community. In this presentation, you will learn how two organizations, a prevention coalition (Jefferson County Drug Prevention Coalition) and their technical assistance provider (PreventEd) intentionally leveraged their funding between organizations to benefit both. In the last five years since this opportunity arose, the two organizations have dramatically shifted how they strategically plan their prevention work with each other in mind. The result? More than either organization could have foreseen. By moving from cooperation and coordination to true collaboration, they ultimately elevated prevention in the county they serve together.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1) Understand the different levels of coalition involvement, including the difference between cooperation and collaboration
2) Show how funding can be leveraged between organizations to benefit both groups
3) Put prevention first and discover unexpected, positive ripple effects
