Description

Many of us know the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ) community is at a greater risk of alcohol misuse, but do you know why this is the case? Have you ever spoken to an LGBTQ individual about their relationship or perception of alcohol? This workshop will feature three previously recorded, one-on-one interviews with a diverse group of LGBTQ identifying individuals. Between video segments, participants will learn statistics of LGBTQ youth and substance misuse, and critical points supporting the specific needs of LGBTQ youth.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Identify indicators that lead LGBTQ youth to misuse substances

2) Understand why the LGBTQ population is at greater risk of substance misuse

3) Make a plan when working with LGBTQ youth to affirm their specific needs
