Using College Prevention Tools and Policies to Address Campus Alcohol Misuse

Thursday, 02/07/2019

Chesapeake A-C

Description

The presentation will look at improving college campus drinking culture through utilizing prevention tools and alcohol policy change in their communities. Our goal is to look at what the community, the campus and Texans Standing Tall can do to emphasize the importance of campus alcohol policy and provide resources. An analytical evaluation of 158 Texas college campuses will be demonstrated through our College Alcohol Policy Online tool. This searchable tool is a concise look at specific campuses across the state of Texas and their effectiveness. We will also be exploring environmental strategies to involve the community because they too are affected by the consequences of risky drinking behaviors on college campuses. And finally we will talk about how Texans Standing Tall implements Screening and Brief Intervention on college campuses as a prevention tool, prior to any sanctions or violations have occurred.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to understand the problems and concerns regarding the college drinking culture and its effect on the surrounding community, to identify prevention tools that would be successful in specific communities and explore the capacity to implement tools and policies to the campus communities, and to learn what Texans Standing Tall is doing on Texas college campuses
