The Urban Experience: City of Brotherly Love
Philadelphia, “The City of Brotherly Love," is a city of neighborhoods strategically managing the substance misuse problems of residents including its youth. The youth substance misuse problem in urban-inner city communities creates a diverse environment of trends across neighborhoods. There is “no one message” that fits all of the needs of the fifty-three zip codes. The participants will learn unique methods to collect youth surveys specifically when a school district’s infrastructure is evolving; the mobilization of many stakeholders addressing exposure to traumatic experiences; and a snapshot of drug trends crossing the neighborhoods that are influenced by pop and underground culture.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to create unique strategies to administer surveys to youth within their communities. Participants will be able to identify messages in pop culture in music that set trends for substance misuse. Participants will be able to outreach and network with stakeholders who are trauma-informed.
