TRL: A Local Policy Strategy for Addressing E-Cigs and Other Harmful Tobacco Product Availability

Wednesday, July 17th
8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Room:
Grapevine 1-3
Description:

This session will unpack a powerful strategy—tobacco retail licensing—to address the e-cigarette epidemic and other harmful tobacco product availability at the local level. Licensing is a key component of a successful tobacco control program for retailers of e-cigarettes and other tobacco products. Attendees will learn new ways to leverage local data to support tobacco policy work, especially to address health disparities. Attendees will leave this session with ways they can initiate local tobacco control policy work in their communities.

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to:
  1. Explain how local data collection such as mapping is important for understanding health disparities
  2. Consider options for pursuing tobacco retail licensing at the local level
  3. Identify best practices for implementing a licensing ordinance
