Description

This session will outline new research on the trends and consequences of underage drinking, as well as interventions to prevent and reduce underage drinking that have emerged since the 2007 Surgeon General's call to action to prevent and reduce underage drinking. The session will explore recent trends in injury deaths linked to underage drinking, binge drinking, and driving under the influence, as well as effects of underage drinking on the developing brain, including blackouts, overdoses, and poor academic performance. It will also examine research on individually-oriented, policy/environmental, and family-, school-, web-, and community-based interventions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to understand the latest trends in and consequences of underage drinking, utilize intervention strategies to prevent and reduce underage drinking, and understand recent trends in injury deaths linked to underage drinking.
