Transforming From an Advisory Board to an Active Coalition

Thursday, 02/07/2019
9:00 AM
10:15 AM
National Harbor 4-5

Description

We've all heard some version of this: "why should we (the members) do the work if you (the staff) are getting paid?" But the key to successful coalitions and sustainable community changes depends on member-driven participation, processes, and leadership. This session will help you identify and harness your members' strength, skills, and talents to make the leap from an inactive "advisory board" to a vibrant and sustainable member-driven collective. Participants will identify barriers to participation, learn how to build confidence in members, cultivate leadership roles, and even get members to create logic models and action plans without even knowing it, all using fun and untraditional methods. We will also discuss applying these methods to youth participation and ways to expand and sustain these relationships.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to identify and address barriers to active coalition participation and assuming leadership roles, identify coalition members' strength, skills, and talents to build confidence and leadership, and utilize fun and innovative strategies to empower members, keep them engaged, and further build capacity.
