Taking Community Engagement to the Next Level: Best Practices for Involving Youth in Underage Alcohol Use Prevention
Texans Standing Tall, a statewide coalition, has developed the Guide to Effective Engagement, a tool that can be used to engage young people in prevention efforts. This presentation will guide participants on how to effectively engage a community through adult and youth partnerships. More specifically, this session will review the best practices and strategic steps for implementing environmental prevention of underage drinking, tobacco and other drug use. It will focus on scientifically-based strategies intended for communities across the nation to utilize, as well as provide examples from Texans Standing Tall’s Youth Leadership Council Members’ application of these prevention efforts in their respective communities.
1. At the end of this session, participants will be able to use the best practices presented in the Guide to Effective Community Engagement to create impactful youth and adult partnerships.
2. At the end of this session, participants will be able to capitalize on youth and adult partnerships through strategic planning to prevent underage drinking in their communities.
3. At the end of this session, participants will be able to assess their current level of youth engagement in their coalitions and work to enhance it using the Guide to Effective Community Engagement.
