Description: 

This is an in depth course on cultural competency with a strong focus on LGBTQ at risk youth and how to engage with them and get them involved in coalition work. Participants will leave the session with Cultural Competency action plans to implement within their communities.

The session will take place in 3 parts.
1. The introduction will feature brief video messages from LGBTQ youth and allies from several different areas with a debrief discussion.
2. A complex overview of Cultural Competency as a whole.
3. A brief Cultural Competency action planning activity which will span to the end of the session with opportunity for questions and one on one technical assistance.

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to: 

1. Have a deeper understanding of Cultural Competency and why it is important in coalition work.
2. Understand LGBTQ youth substance use/misuse statistics and risk factors and how they differ from those of non-LGBTQ youth.
3. Create Cultural Competency action plans for their communities.
