Description

Youth resilience and their development as young adults is often predicated on the support and positive interaction with adults. Coalitions are poised to help youth become strong leaders as well as key partners in creating safe and drug free communities. Youth participation in coalitions allow young people to have a role within the coalition whereby their opinions are heard, and valued. This workshop will provide an interactive discussion regarding the importance of youth's presence within coalitions, effective approaches to recruitment, and retention. Participants will gain insight into how investing in youth recruitment can lead to strengthening prevention efforts within coalition work.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Develop approaches to recruiting and retaining youth in coalition work.

2) Evaluate adult's unconscious bias of youth attitudes.
