Through local partnerships, education, and outreach, these\u00a0groups are\u00a0implementing evidence-based strategies to address the unique substance use challenges facing their communities.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u041a\u0435\u043d\u0438\u044f\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In Kenya, coalitions are using innovation and collaboration to reach new audiences. Under the leadership of Mr. Edwin Gitau, the\u00a0Juja\u00a0Community Alcohol and Drug Control Organization (JUCADO) appeared on a local television program to amplify its prevention message beyond the town of\u00a0Juja. Mr.\u00a0Giatu\u00a0also led open community dialogues in the\u00a0Kiandutu\u00a0Slums and local churches, places\u00a0where\u00a0residents, including former drug users, could speak candidly about the health risks of substance use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23071 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Kenya2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"830\" height=\"587\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Kenya2.png 830w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Kenya2-300x212.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Kenya2-768x543.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Kenya2-18x12.png 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Malindi Coalition combined sports and prevention education through a\u00a0soccer\u00a0tournament with the theme, \u201cKick Drugs Out of Shella,\u201d drawing more than 300 youth participants. Student leaders extended their message online, using social media to share anti-drug videos and inspire their peers. Additionally, the coalition partnered with Kenya\u2019s\u00a0Ministry of Education to\u00a0establish\u00a0anti-drug clubs in local primary schools and held 10 community forums across Shella Ward, reaching 1,750 residents through local barazas and public assemblies.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0421\u0435\u043d\u0435\u0433\u0430\u043b<\/strong><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In Senegal, newly formed coalitions in Dakar (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Diakhaye\u00a0Parcelles,\u00a0Yeumbeul\u00a0Nord, and\u00a0Thiaroye\u00a0sur Mer) continued\u00a0to hold meetings focused on\u00a0developing community assessments\u00a0to\u00a0determine\u00a0the prevention-specific needs of their communities.\u00a0Several coalitions\u00a0also conducted\u00a0outreach and coordination activities with local stakeholders. For example, the\u00a0Diamagu\u00e9ne\u00a0Sicap\u00a0Mbao coalition met with women\u2019s groups in the commune to raise awareness around youth drug prevention and education. Meanwhile, the\u00a0Diakhaye\u00a0coalition engaged with child protection partners in the Keur Massar department, and the\u00a0Asprosad\u00a0coalition in\u00a0Mbour\u00a0convened a community coordination meeting with members of the ONCAD neighborhood.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CADCA and Mr. Diouf also conducted two in-person\u00a0trainings\u00a0in August focused on logic models and evaluation, helping coalitions improve their coalition capacity and strategic planning and evaluation efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23069\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Sengal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Sengal.jpg 603w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Sengal-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Sengal-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Looking ahead, Senegal\u2019s coalition leaders are focused on sustainability. Mr. Diouf is collaborating with interministerial committees, the Federation of Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of Senegal, and the Ministry of the Interior to\u00a0identify\u00a0new funding sources and secure local investment in community-based prevention and violence reduction.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0423\u0433\u0430\u043d\u0434\u0430<\/strong><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Coalitions across Uganda are fighting urban substance use with compassion, data, and creativity. The\u00a0Kalerwe\u00a0Coalition\u00a0addressed urban drug use challenges in Kampala\u2019s Dobi Zone by organizing community clean-ups,\u00a0procuring\u00a0reflective uniforms to enhance visibility, and conducting household-level outreach to high-risk groups. Testimonies collected during these activities revealed that more than a dozen habitual drinkers pledged to quit early-morning alcohol consumption if livelihood opportunities were available. In response, the coalition launched youth-led income-generating initiatives, such as recycling waste into animal feed and producing eco-briquettes, which are now being scaled as sustainable alternatives to idleness and substance misuse.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Nansana and Bwaise Coalitions invested in baseline data collection exercises to map drug hotspots and quantify substance use trends. These assessments, which engaged more than 150 respondents through surveys, focus groups, and interviews, provided credible evidence to inform targeted prevention strategies. Both coalitions leveraged community networks to strengthen advocacy with schools, health centers, religious institutions, and local government. Meanwhile, the Bwaise Coalition expanded its membership base to Kenya, the United States, and the United Kingdom, securing financial contributions from diaspora members to sustain ongoing operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23068\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Uganda.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"975\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Uganda.png 975w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Uganda-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Uganda-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Uganda-18x12.png 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 975px) 100vw, 975px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Partnerships have also played a vital role in Uganda. Coalitions collaborated with municipal leaders, religious institutions, and media outlets like\u00a0Bukedde\u00a0TV and local radio stations to conduct awareness campaigns and mobilize community\u00a0support.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From sports tournaments and school clubs to data-driven assessments and cross-sector partnerships, African coalitions are\u00a0proving that prevention\u00a0and collaboration go\u00a0hand-in-hand.
