{"id":22958,"date":"2025-09-18T13:26:56","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T13:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/?p=22958"},"modified":"2026-02-27T13:30:03","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T13:30:03","slug":"takeaways-from-the-national-conference-on-tobacco-or-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/ru\/blog\/takeaways-from-the-national-conference-on-tobacco-or-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Takeaways from the National Conference on Tobacco or Health\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<style media=\"all\" type=\"text\/css\">\n\n    \n    \/* xs & sm (mobile) *\/\n    @media (max-width: 767.98px) {\n        }\n\n    \/* md (tablet) *\/\n    @media (min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 1199.98px) {\n        }\n\n    \/* lg (desktop) *\/\n    @media (min-width: 1200px) {\n        }\n\n    \/* custom styles *\/\n    <\/style>\n<section class=\"rte  block_961ec2d26747d97e89d8e78fc848c156\" id=\"block_961ec2d26747d97e89d8e78fc848c156\">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n        <p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In August 2025,\u00a0five CADCA staff members\u00a0attended the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nnphi.org\/event\/national-conference-on-tobacco-or-health-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH)<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in Chicago, Illinois.\u00a0As one of the largest national gatherings for tobacco\u00a0prevention\u00a0professionals, the conference brought together leaders, practitioners, and advocates to share strategies and strengthen connections across the field.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Throughout the sessions, a common theme\u00a0emerged:\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">coalitions are the way forward<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. With ongoing threats to state and national tobacco program funding, speakers repeatedly emphasized the critical role of coalitions in sustaining prevention efforts. Building community capacity and strengthening coalitions were identified as key to\u00a0doing the work to\u00a0advance\u00a0tobacco prevention and\u00a0continuing to implement\u00a0environmental strategies.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CADCA presented two posters at\u00a0NCTOH. The first,\u00a0presented by Andrew Romero, Director\u00a0of Domestic Programs, was titled\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cLocalize, Localize,\u00a0Localize\u2026 the best tool we have for communicating\u00a0with rural communities.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0The poster\u00a0shared ten principles for communicating about health in rural areas.\u00a0These principles were developed\u00a0by\u00a0CADCA\u00a0in partnership\u00a0with the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/realgoodcenter.jou.ufl.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">University of Florida\u2019s Center for Public Interest\u00a0Communications<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0shaped by research and refined through focus groups with rural coalitions. State-level attendees expressed enthusiasm about using them in their own work with\u00a0communities\u00a0they serve.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22959 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/CPIC-Poster.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The second poster, presented by Kellen Schalter, Senior Manager of Domestic Programs,\u00a0came from a final project through CDC\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Leadership and Sustainability School (LSS)<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which builds leadership in the tobacco prevention field. CADCA staff collaborated with other LSS participants to examine how states, national partners, and communities approach the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/truthinitiative.org\/research-resources\/tobacco-prevention-efforts\/what-does-tobacco-endgame-mean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">endgame initiative<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0Their findings highlighted several themes: the importance of including community voices at every step, the need for flexibility in planning and funding, the role of local environmental strategies as a starting point for change, and the challenges posed by competing priorities, and industry influence.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22960 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/LSS-Poster-2.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CADCA also sponsored a booth at NCTOH, which quickly became a space for meaningful conversations and new connections\u00a0with\u00a0CADCA team members, Alex Simaitis, membership associate, and Doug Rice, Senior Manager, Customized Trainings and Business Development.\u00a0Because the conference primarily draws public health professionals working at the state and national level, many attendees were learning about CADCA for the first time. With coalitions at the center of\u00a0many conference sessions and conversations, they were excited to discover that coalition training and development are the heart of our work. Interest grew as CADCA staff shared details about our training opportunities, technical\u00a0assistance, and signature events \u2014 the\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u041d\u0430\u0446\u0438\u043e\u043d\u0430\u043b\u044c\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0444\u043e\u0440\u0443\u043c \u043b\u0438\u0434\u0435\u0440\u043e\u0432<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u0438\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u041f\u043e\u043b\u0443\u0433\u043e\u0434\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0439 \u0443\u0447\u0435\u0431\u043d\u044b\u0439 \u0438\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0438\u0442\u0443\u0442<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
