Despite being classified as one of the most dangerous sectors of Ecuador due to its high incidence of violence and presence of criminal gangs, Recreo 3 stands as an example of overcoming adversity thanks to the tireless work of its inhabitants and the organization of the Community Coalitions of Ecuador, led at the national level by Nataly Jara.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Leader Behind the Change: Gina Sosa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture2.jpg 352w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture2-300x149.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture2-18x9.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the center of this transformation is Gina Sosa, a community leader and resident of Recreo 3. As a founder and industry leader, Gina has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her community. Her work has been key to implementing prevention strategies, strengthening the social fabric and creating safe spaces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth Group Recreo 3 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21611\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture3.jpg 389w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture3-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture3-18x10.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Under her leadership and with the support of the CADCA methodology and the Youth Coordinator Yurimar Santiago, a youth group has been formed in an area where young people are at risk of being recruited by criminal organizations. This group not only participates in prevention campaigns, but also leads activities such as painting murals, planting plants and creating recreational spaces, demonstrating that another future is possible.<\/p>\n<p>Recreo 3 has also been the scene of illustrious visits that highlight its impact. The United States Ambassador to Ecuador, Arthur W. Brown, and Liv Kilpatrick, director of the Office of Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), witnessed firsthand the achievements of this community. During her visit, Gina Sosa shared how, despite the crisis of various kinds, she and the neighbors have maintained essential activities such as zumba and community workshops.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21610\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture4.jpg 281w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture4-12x12.jpg 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>United States Ambassador to Ecuador, Arthur W. Brown, and Liv Kilpatrick, INL Director <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Transformative Leadership through Health and Art <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The coalition led by Gina has not only worked on crime prevention, but also in the promotion of mental health and physical well-being. Initiatives such as the weekly discussion sessions for women of the sector guided by the Ministry of Public Health from Ecuador and the senior folklore group are fundamental pillars that have allowed the community to remain resilient in the face of challenges.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21609\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture5.jpg 197w, https:\/\/www.cadca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Picture5-11x12.jpg 11w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The coalition has also implemented creative strategies to ensure its sustainability, such as:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px\">\n<li>Using murals for artistic expression as a tool to promote social and cultural change.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting community entrepreneurship, strengthening residents&#8217; capacities to generate sustainable income.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 20px\">Environmental motivation through activities that promote awareness and care for the environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The example of Recreo 3 and Gina Sosa, supported by Nataly Jara as national coordinator of community coalitions in Ecuador, not only inspires other communities in the country, but also the entire world. This model shows that, even in the most adverse circumstances, it is possible to create safe, sustainable and opportunity-filled environments.<\/p>\n
