Reversing the Flavor Trap

Tuesday, 02/05/2019
1:45 PM
3:00 PM
National Harbor 4-5

Description

Juuls, crème brulee, mango, vapes, cartridges, THC, wax, dabs, and popcorn lung. This is the current landscape of teen vaping in our county. Currently, 31% of our 12th grade students report vaping in the past 30 days. This workshop will describe a menu of youth and adult focused strategies that we are implementing to reverse these trends. Using the Strategic Prevention Framework and the seven strategies for community level change, we have partnered with hospitals, schools, and government officials resulting in a county-wide Tobacco 21 ordinance that includes e-cigarettes. Next up – a call to action to address the flavorings in vape products. Please note that this workshop assumes that participants know the basics about vaping and vape devices and are looking to move toward solutions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe policy options to prevent/reduce youth vaping, discuss the importance of a range of strategies to address youth vaping, and identify key partners in addressing youth vaping prevention.
