Research Support For Comprehensive Community Interventions

The substance abuse prevention field is at a crossroads. In this time of healthcare reform, the opportunity exists to combat substance abuse and related harms with concerted, community-based and comprehensive efforts to change norms, behaviors, systems and contexts that contribute to substance abuse problems in our communities. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how a truly comprehensive response to substance use and abuse in our country can be implemented.

Um novo estudo feito por pesquisadores do departamento de cardiologia da Universidade da Califórnia (UCLA) em São Francisco afirma que a exposição à fumaça de maconha de terceiros pode ser tão prejudicial à saúde quanto a exposição à fumaça passiva de cigarro.

Em ratos de laboratório expostos à fumaça passiva de maconha por 30 minutos, o funcionamento de seus vasos sanguíneos foi reduzido em 70%.

A equipe de pesquisadores, que inclui o renomado autor Matthew Springer, professor associado de medicina do departamento de cardiologia da Universidade da Califórnia, irá apresentar os resultados completos deste estudo na American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions (Sessões científicas da Associação americana de cardiologia) de 2014 em Chicago, Ilinóis.
