The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act is slated for mark-up in the House of Representatives\u2019 Judiciary Committee the last week of this month and House leadership announced floor time for opioid bills, including CARA, during the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0week of May.<\/p>\n

This news makes our goal to reach 200 co-sponsors in the next month even more important. We are at 112 co-sponsors and need your help to reach our goal of 200 co-sponsors by April 30\u00ba<\/sup>. The more co-sponsors we have, the greater the likelihood CARA will pass the House.<\/p>\n

This bi-partisan legislation provides numerous provisions aimed at tackling the nation\u2019s prescription drug abuse and heroin overdose epidemic, including a $5 million enhancement grant program for current and former Drug-Free Communities grantees to address prescription drug, heroin, and methamphetamine crises locally.<\/p>\n

CADCA, which endorsed the legislation and actively advocated for its passage, would like you to contact your\u00a0Members of Congress<\/a>\u00a0to ask them to support the bill this week!<\/p>\n

O\u00a0Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) of 2016<\/a>\u00a0is the most expansive federal, bipartisan legislation to date for addiction support services, designating between $40 million and $80 million toward advancing treatment and recovery support services in state and local communities across the country, which will help save the lives of countless people.<\/p>\n
