This month-long national observance \u2013 now in its 27<sup>\u00ba<\/sup> year \u2013 is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Its two f0ld-purpose is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders<\/li>\n<li>Celebrate the successes of people in recovery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Coalitions across the United States have always been major stakeholders in National Recovery Month. The initiative serves as a platform for coalitions to collaborate with broad community sectors, to educate the public and raise awareness about mental and substance use disorders; promote national, state and local prevention, treatment and recovery resources; and pay tribute to the millions of Americans whose lives have been positively changed through recovery. This also includes recognizing the contribution of individuals\u2019 family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Coalitions should feel free to take advantage of SAMHSA\u2019s website \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverymonth.gov\/\">National Recovery Month<\/a> \u2013 which provides:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Detailed programming ideas<\/li>\n<li>Social media strategies to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverymonth.gov\/events\/plan-events\/social-media-tools\">get the word out<\/a> about events in your area<\/li>\n<li>Downloadable toolkits in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverymonth.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/toolkit\/2016\/toolkit.pdf\">English<\/a> e <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverymonth.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/toolkit\/2016\/toolkit-spanish.pdf\">Espanhol<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Easy-to-use ancillary materials including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverymonth.gov\/promote\/banners-logos-flyers\">banners, logos, flyers<\/a> e <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recoverymonth.gov\/promote\/public-service-announcements\">public service announcements (PSAs)<\/a>, which can also be downloaded and adapted to meet your local needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September is once again National Recovery Month.
