POWER SESSION: Youth Vaping Epidemic in the U.S.: Nicotine and Marijuana
Youth vaping of nicotine and marijuana products is a serious health concern. In 2019, past-month nicotine vaping was reported by 25% of 12th, 20% of 10th and 9% of 8th graders, all higher than 2017, and daily nicotine vaping was reported by 12% of 12th, 7% of 10th and 2% of 8th graders. Flavorings are popular with youth and contribute to nicotine vaping. In addition, past-month marijuana vaping was reported (in 2018) by 8% of 12th, 7% of 10th, and 3% of 8th graders, all higher than 2017. By reviewing current research on vaping by youth in the USA, participants will have new information to share with families and communities that can help guide policy and practice interventions.
This session will review current data on electronic drug delivery (i.e., vaping) devices and their patterns of use by teens.
At the end of this session, participants will have new information to share with families and communities that can help guide policy and practice interventions regarding vaping of both tobacco and marijuana products.
