CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) announced Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) Acting Director Richard Baum will keynote the National Leadership Forum’s Opening Plenary on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018.
Approximately 3,000 community leaders will unite at CADCA’s 28th Annual National Leadership Forum. The week-long event will be held Feb. 5-8, 2018, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. Forum will kick off with the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Prevention Day; feature 70+ training sessions covering topics ranging from the marijuana legislation landscape and tobacco cessation to the opioid epidemic and underage drinking; offer attendees the unique opportunity to meet with members of Congress on Capitol Hill Day; and welcome hundreds of youth to take part in CADCA’s Youth Leadership Summit to learn how to become effective community leaders.
“We are thrilled to have Acting Director Baum serve as our keynote speaker at Forum and we are eager to hear what he will share with attendees,” said General Arthur T. Dean, Chairman & CEO, CADCA. “Acting Director Baum brings decades of experience in the prevention field to the table and he has dedicated his career to drug issues. Together, alongside partners like him, we can bring prevention to the forefront and reduce the drug epidemic within the United States.”
Acting Director Baum was appointed as head of the ONDCP in March 2017 by President Donald Trump. Previously, he worked for almost twenty years at the ONDCP in various positions. Among the highlights of his career is leading efforts to draft the National Drug Control Strategy in both the Bush and Obama Administration, and co-chairing work groups that put together the White House Transnational Organized Crime Strategy and the National Southwest Border Counternarcotics Strategy.
CADCA’s National Leadership Forum is a four-day event packed with opportunities to learn the latest strategies to address substance abuse and hear from nationally-known prevention experts, federal administrators, and concerned policymakers. Forum brings together attendees representing coalitions from all regions of the country and internationally, government leaders, youth, prevention specialists, addiction treatment professionals, addiction recovery advocates, researchers, educators, law enforcement professionals, and faith-based leaders. It is the largest training event for the prevention field.
