Mapping Our Way to Environmental Prevention: Increasing Prescription Disposal Access

4:00 PM
5:15 PM

In this session, we will discuss the planning, implementation, outcomes and pilot research of mapping prescription disposal locations to increase awareness of prescription disposal opportunities. This initiative, funded by Ohio’s SPF Rx, incorporated statewide and community level feedback to identify prescription disposal locations throughout the state, while decreasing barriers by providing prescription disposal through a pilot mail project. We will discuss the planning and coordination required to implement such a project, as well as outcomes associated with implementation of the pilot study. The pilot study associated with this project measures knowledge, skills, attitudes, behavior and behavioral intention in an attempt to expand the body of evidence supporting this environmental strategy. In addition, this presentation will discuss current tools available for implementation in your community.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Identify current no-cost tools available to map prescription disposal locations in your community

2) Understand the current body of literature surrounding prescription disposal

3) Discuss the importance of prescription drug disposal in a comprehensive prevention approach
