Making Your Coalition and Youth Coalition One

Tuesday, February 4, 2020
3:30 PM
4:45 PM
Chesapeake 10-12

Every coalition benefits from having engaged youth. How can we be purposeful about getting our coalitions and youth coalitions working toward the same vision? How can we create messages that are authentic to youth without including their voice? Youth and adult engagement are paramount to our success in prevention. Through an atmosphere of shared leadership, the Community Alliance for Prevention and the Youth Advisory Committee has found a way to emphasize their strengths and youth presence to become a more effective coalition. All of which helps the coalition create initiatives that are credible and impactful for their target audiences. In this session, we will discuss how we have built both coalitions, empowered leaders at each level, developed collaboration, as well as walk through the process we have used to create and design prevention initiatives.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Integrate youth members into a coalition.

2) Work as a team to navigate projects together.

3) Collaborate together to develop messaging.
