Kratom - Could This Be the Next Big Marijuana?

Monday, July 15th
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Room:
Grapevine C
Description:

Kratom is becoming more popular as a novel psychoactive substance in the U.S, yet it is not a DEA scheduled drug. Currently, there are no FDA-approved uses for kratom, yet it has been marketed for opioid cessation, pain treatment, and other medical uses. Sound familiar? Coalitions need to get ahead of this substance before it becomes the next BIG marijuana. This session will review how kratom is used, its effects, how it is marketed, and specific measures communities can take to address this substance.

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to:

1. Understand use of Kratom in the U.S. and its potential effects.
2. Know how Kratom is packaged to be able to identify it in your community.
3. Approach local and state officials with requests to regulate or ban the products.

All presentations that have been made available to CADCA have been posted at this time.
