It’s More than Just a Cup of Coffee, Cultivating Champions For The Work

Wednesday, July 17th
8:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Room:
Texas 1-3
Description:

Coalitions require partnership in order to identify and advance shared goals, but partnership is deeper than participation. Partnership with formal and informal leaders and champions will ensure your coalition crosses the finish line. Sector support is critical in moving from ideas to action. Participants attend; Partners finish. In order to develop strong partnerships with champions, we start with a cup of coffee because that is where connections are formed. Our aim is to spend time listening and understanding why they do the work they do, what drives them, and how we can link their passion with our understanding of prevention research to create coalition champions with shared goals. This workshop will explore ways to understand and tap into the sometimes hard to reach traditional and nontraditional sector partners such as veterans, civic groups, parents and others.

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to:

1. Recognize the alignment of goals that prevention has with informal and formal leaders and champions
2. Identify basic prevention research that can be used to gain both long- and short-term outcomes with partners
3. Analyze strategies that can multiply prevention efforts and create sustainability
