Iraq
CADCA trained in the northern city of Erbil, Iraq from 2013 to 2014 with the support of the Zhian Health Organization and Together to Protect Human & the Environment Association. Through this collaboration two community coalitions were established, one in the district of Ari and the other in Ankawa. Both coalitions completed community assessments, logic models, strategic plans and recruitment of all community sectors.
The Ari Coalition focused on tobacco use among youth as it relates to the sale of individual cigarettes and the unregulated use of hookahs in local establishments that sell to minors. Ankawa Community Coalition to Combat Addiction focused on addressing prescription drug misuse by working with the health department, local pharmacies and physicians to put a new system in place for regulating prescription drugs.
