Dominican Republic

CADCA worked closely with the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo and the National Council on Drugs (CND) to launch trainings in the Dominican Republic in February 2018. Local partners, including the National Council on Drugs, continue to support the community coalitions of Pantoja and Boca Chica. A representative from CND as well as the in-country coordinator from Boca Chica attended CADCA’s Mid-Year Training Institute in 2018 and again in 2019, returning to the island to invigorate the coalitions and explore the possibility of launching a Training of Leaders initiative in 2020. Both coalitions graduated in June 2019. Recognizing the importance of prevention and the role community-based empowerment plays, the U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Robin Bernstein attended the ceremony and gave a few words of encouragement.
