Are you a new prevention professional? A new coalition volunteer? Want a refresher? This session is an opportunity to get back to basics. In this interactive session, we will talk about what effective prevention is, why coalitions are considered to be the best practice for establishing prevention infrastructures and the science behind achieving population-level reductions in substance use. The session will also give an overview of the strategic prevention framework as the credible planning process in coalition prevention work.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Identify the key prevention principles and concepts

2) Describe why coalitions are best practice and the key role they play in prevention

3) Explain the steps of the Strategic Prevention Framework
