As more and more states legalize marijuana, coalitions will want to be armed with the latest information to prevent youth use and impaired driving. The training session, \u201cMeasuring Marijuana\u2019s Impact Locally: Trends and the Eight Enforcement Priority Areas,\u201d will be from 1:30-5 p.m. July 20e<\/sup>. Trainers include Kevin Wong and Chelsey Clarke, who are both intelligence analysts with the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (RMHIDTA).<\/p>\n

Marijuana continues to be illegal as a Schedule I substance under Federal Law. Coalitions can play an important role in gathering and organizing information that might be helpful to track the important changes in marijuana policies\/laws at the state and local level and role of the eight priority areas in your state and communities. Participants will become familiar with the role that coalitions can play in collecting local information that aligns with these priority areas and how changes in marijuana law might impact important state and local metrics. This training session will also provide an overview of marijuana trends, to include unintended consequences that directly impact public health and public safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith such a controversial topic, education is crucial.\u00a0We are here to present the data so that you can make evidence based decisions on the impacts of marijuana legalization,\u201d Wong said. \u201cThe collateral damages of marijuana legalization effects everyone, you are NOT\u00a0immune from it. Partnerships are critical for success, we are in this fight together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wong has been a crime and intelligence analyst since 2003. He has worked for the Phoenix (Ariz.) Police Department and the Denver Police Department as well as the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Kevin joined the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program in 2013 as the lead strategic intelligence analyst. He is regarded as a subject matter expert in the area on the impact of the legalization of marijuana to Colorado. Kevin graduated from Arizona State University with concurrent degrees in Psychology, Sociology, holds a certification with Crime Analysis\/Intelligence Analysis and his master\u2019s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Colorado. Kevin is part of the Strategic Unit and is one of the primary authors of the marijuana impact report and the regional threat assessment.<\/p>\n
