Quand la coalition a-t-elle \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9e ? <\/strong><\/p>\n The Wilmington Coalition for a Healthy Community started in 2006 as a grassroots organization formed by a group of parents because of growing concern about the presence of heroin in the community. Wilmington is a small rural community of about 6,000 people. The town is about 50 miles south of Chicago, and is known as \u201cisland city,\u201d because it is actually an island in the middle of the Kankakee river.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00c0 quels probl\u00e8mes uniques votre coalition est-elle confront\u00e9e\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt can sometimes be a struggle for us to access the resources needed to continue to fight against substance abuse issues in our community and surrounding communities,\u201d said Program Director and Coordinator Deborah Tomey<\/strong>. \u201cWe can offer prevention, education, and training, but if we don\u2019t have resources in place it won\u2019t make a difference. We now partner with counseling service to help grade school, middle, and high school students. These students do all the research, planning, etc. for tobacco campaigns targeted at their own peers. Results from this year\u2019s survey show that Wilmington has seen a decline in both 30 day and year use for all substances. We started rebuilding our youth groups, and working with the youth has created noticeable change in our schools.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere were a lot of days where we struggled. It\u2019s hard to do coalition work, hearing about more teenagers passing away in town each weekend.
