The mission of One Voice is to bring our community together to support and implement proven drug and alcohol prevention strategies that protect our youth. One Voice is focused specifically on the reduction of underage drinking, opioid misuse and marijuana use among youth 18 and under. One Voice was established in 2012 as a small workgroup of prevention professionals, faith leaders and law enforcement. For the last 10 years, the coalition has established a unique outreach utilizing the power of the faith community to disseminate messages, information and resources. Hunterdon County has many rural pockets; thus, places of worship are often where many people gather. Tying the protective factor of faith to prevention has been a unique perspective and a way to engage with our faith leaders. While originally intended to be primarily faith-based, the coalition has expanded to include all sectors of Hunterdon County including schools, businesses, healthcare, civic and youth serving organizations, media, and recovery, with the continued support from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor&#8217;s Office. We experienced positive measurable outcomes in reducing access to prescription drugs. Hunterdon homes with unsecured Rx drugs decreased by 22% and homes with unused\/expired Rx drugs decreased by 28%. With a mission rooted in raising awareness, fostering education, and implementing evidence-based prevention strategies, the coalition has dedicated itself to reducing substance misuse across all ages, with a particular focus on youth. Early intervention has proven to be one of the most effective ways to prevent long-term substance use, and JPC has embraced this approach to empower the next generation to make informed, positive choices.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition\u2019s efforts have already demonstrated measurable success. Recognizing the rapid rise of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) in 2018, the coalition increased its focus on addressing youth nicotine use. From 2018 to 2024, Johnston experienced an 11.6% reduction in lifetime nicotine use and a 6.8% decrease in past 30-day use among students in grades 7 through 11. The coalition utilizes a multiprong approach to achieve its goals, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to education, enforcement, and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of JPC&#8217;s success is its strong network of community partnerships. By working collaboratively with local recreation centers, local government, healthcare providers, student assistance counselors, the Juvenile Justice Hearing Board, Above the Influence (ATI) school groups, athletic teams, parent-teacher organizations, the Johnston School Department, and the Johnston Police Department, the coalition ensures its efforts have a meaningful and widespread impact across the community.<\/p>\n<p>These collaborations have driven significant progress, including the adoption of a comprehensive town-wide tobacco policy. Initiatives such as the Escape the Vape escape room and evidence-based program such as Media Ready have been introduced to middle school students, equipping them with the tools to make informed decisions. Additionally, the Pick Your No\u2019s curriculum, which engages students in practicing refusal skills through interactive role-playing activities, has been successfully integrated into middle school health classes. Furthermore, the development of the Above the Influence peer leadership initiative in middle and high schools has empowered youth to take an active role in prevention efforts. For parents and educators, the Hidden in Plain Sight display and interactive virtual website provide a convenient resource, accessible from home or as part of parent events. Additionally, JPC has launched parent-focused campaigns such as It Starts With You: Talk Early, Talk Often, and Listen and Talk. They Hear You., which promote open and ongoing conversations with youth about substance use. To extend its impact, the coalition and its partners distribute the Raising Healthy Kids quarterly newsletter, offering practical tools, resources, and insights for families and educators.<\/p>\n<p>By sustaining partnerships and introducing innovative strategies, JPC is committed to reducing youth substance use and fostering a community where all residents can thrive. The work of the Johnston Prevention Coalition serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring impact of prevention efforts.<\/p>\n                            <a
