Faith, Hope, and Sector Engagement

Tuesday, 02/05/2019
11:00 AM
12:15 PM
Chesapeake 4-6

Description

Even the most successful coalitions have trouble engaging the faith-based sector in a meaningful way. In the early days of a coalition, it is often easy to find an individual leader to fill the faith sector representative slot. Do your faith sector leaders attend meetings but stop short of becoming authentic partners? Do you find one faith sector representative limiting? This session will outline steps to engage the faith sector through its leaders. This can increase awareness of substance misuse problems and prevention solutions within the community. Learn to apply coalition strategies to increase support and resources for your coalition activities. We present the story of a year-10 Drug Free Communities coalition in West Virginia’s northern panhandle, and our experience successfully engaging the faith community locally and state-wide. The session will conclude by creating a faith sector plan tailored to individual communities.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to enhance a coalition’s ability to engage the faith sector, apply strategies to increase support throughout the faith community by collaboration, and create a plan to present to their coalition leadership to engage and increase faith sector participation.
