Learn strategies to prevent over-the-counter (OTC) medicine abuse in your community, starting with school-aged children, at CADCA\u2019s 15el<\/sup>\u00a0Instituto anual de capacitaci\u00f3n de mitad de a\u00f1o en The Mirage Hotel en Las Vegas del 17 al 21 de julio.<\/p>\n

In the \u201cDrugs: Community Kryptonite\u201d track, coalition leaders can take a training session entitled \u201cTeaching Tweens to be Medicine Wise,\u201don July 18th.
\nCADCA knows that coalitions often support the implementation of effective programs as part of a comprehensive strategy.<\/p>\n

Since 2013, CADCA has been contributing to the tools surrounding the OTC Medicine Safety<\/a> program and sharing it with its coalition network. Developed by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Scholastic and the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC), OTC Medicine Safety is a no-cost program that teaches tweens to read a drug facts label, identify safe storage strategies, and understand proper dosage measurements. Tweens also walk away with a foundational understanding that OTC medicines are only safe when used following specific medical guidelines and should never be shared. OTC Medicine Safety is an exciting way to deepen your relationship with local schools and impact a teachable, reachable young audience.<\/p>\n

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to: become familiar with the modules, lesson plans and tools surrounding the OTC Medicine Safety curriculum and develop an implementation plan.<\/p>\n

Barbara Carlton, one of the training session facilitators, is a Prevention Specialist with the Alamance Burlington School System in North Carolina. She has been using the curricula in her coalition work for a few years with 4el<\/sup>-6el<\/sup> grade students.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing I love the most is that everything you need is on the website. It is easy to find and laid out in a user-friendly way. The lessons were easy to teach, no matter who was teaching. The students enjoyed the lessons, especially the interactive information.\u201d<\/p>\n
