Festivals and other public events play an important role in community identity and culture. Unfortunately, a growing number of these events are increasingly focused on alcohol consumption. The Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth successfully partnered with key community stakeholders to support their town’s first ever comprehensive alcohol policy for public events. The policy protects members of the community by preventing intoxication and underage drinking among event attendees. During this presentation, you’ll be provided with a road map that will help you begin the planning process to address policy issues surrounding public events in your community. Presenters will discuss what key resources you need to be successful and other community factors that can provide access and barriers to implementing alcohol policies.

Learning Objective

At the end of the training session, the participants will be able to: 1. Assess community readiness for policy change related to alcohol use. 2. Identify key stakeholders in the community to support policy change. 3. Identify which types of policies fit with their community needs.
