Drug Prevention Strategies for Generation X, Y and Z

Is your coalition marketing the same drug prevention message across all generations in your community? This session will explore best practices for each generation on substance use prevention, strategies to implement evidence-based approaches that best suites each generation and how to market your prevention messages differently to these unique generations. A historical background for each generation will be presented to have an understanding and be able to differentiate between Generation X, Y and Z. Then, exploring substance use trends and patterns for each generation and the trajectory of substance use. The national substance use data trends will be used to tailor prevention messages through evidence-based approaches for each generation. Piecing all this information together will inform your coalition on how to inform each generation on prevention messaging that best suits their needs and marketing consumption patterns.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1) Describe the historical differences between Generation X, Y and Z. 

2) Identify substance use trends and patterns among Generation X, Y and Z.

3) Name one evidence-based approach for each generation to effectively market substance use and misuse prevention.
