Cultivating Champions for the Work

Coalitions require partnerships to identify and advance shared goals, but collaboration is deeper than participation. Partnership with formal and informal leaders and champions will ensure your coalition goals cross the finish line. Sector support is critical in moving ideas to action, but participants attend, and partners finish. Developing solid relationships with and cultivating champions is crucial because that is where connections are formed and vision is created. Discover the value in listening and understanding why they do their work and what drives them. Then strategize how to link their passion with our knowledge of prevention research and community building to create coalition champions with shared goals. This workshop will explore ways to understand and tap into the sometimes hard-to-reach traditional and nontraditional sector partners and make them some of our community's strongest supporters.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize the alignment of goals that prevention has with informal and formal leaders and champions

2. Identify basic prevention research that can be used to gain both long- and short-term outcomes with partners

3. Analyze strategies that can multiply prevention efforts and create sustainability
